Muscular weakness (myasthenia)

A strong indication of many diseases is muscular weakness. In this case, changes in the muscle cells can be seen through an electron microscope.

Muscular weakness feature is the similarity of changes in cells. At the same time, this symptom is observed at various types of diseases: hereditary, neurologic, endocrine, inflammatory.

The pathology is characterized with the following symptoms:

Muscular weakness causes certain disorders in muscular tissues. Fatigue is how a person feels these disorders. At the same time fatigue does not affect muscle cells organelles.

Muscular weakness (myasthenia) is expressed in a significant decrease in muscular strength. This is due to the fact that muscle tissue cannot contract normally. A person is not capable of normal movements, which are provided by muscles at myopathy, muscular dystrophy and myasthenia. Myasthenia is characterized by normal muscular strength, while a person keeps a sedentary lifestyle. The real weakness arises only when it is required to perform any physical activity, for example, to do the cleaning or walk along the street.

I believe that all the changes in muscle cells, observed in the diseases described above, have the same cause - muscle swelling. This pathology contributes to displacement of cell nuclei in a distal direction. In this case, since the mitochondria, which represent the energy source for the muscle fibers, are closely related to the nuclei, they follow them. As a consequence, neurological abnormalities occur in the muscle swelling area.

 

In the upper motor neuron system, the spinal cord injury in the neck area is directly related to the pressure exerted on it by the vertebral disc. The disc is subject to pressure by the swelled neck muscles. In the lower motor neuron system the cellular structure of the anterior horns of the spinal cord (multiple radiculopathy) is damaged due to the increase in pressure from the intervertebral discs. Swelling of the back muscles shifts the intervertebral discs from its normal position.

In the neuromuscular junction system, at the myasthenia diagnosis, the muscle cells swelling squeezes the nucleus with mitochondria to the cell periphery. As a result, muscle cells do not receive enough energy. In the muscle system itself, muscle swelling presses on the nucleus. The nucleus is forced to “retreat” to the cell periphery, taking mitochondria with it.

I believe that the emergence of the scalenus-anticus syndrome is preceded by muscle tissue swelling. The swelling occurs in the collar muscles region as a result of neuritis. What is the difference between the primary muscle weakness and muscles fatigability?

Muscle fatigue is a sign of myasthenia. According to WHO classification, myasthenia includes: Goldflam disease, Oppenheim disease, laughing sickness, Erb-Goldflam disease.

The main clinical sign of myasthenia is a syndrome of permanent muscle fatigue, accompanied by weakness and pain in the upper and lower limbs, without sensory deprivation. Especially the signs of myasthenia manifest after physical activity, while they relieve during the rest time.

Myasthenia sufferers have one peculiarity - they cannot complete repetitive movements. This is due to the fact that with each effort the muscles become weaker and weaker, which in the end leads to a complete lack of strength. Manifestations of fatigue are visible in everything that a person does. It is difficult for a patient to talk and eat food.

Changes in muscle cells at muscle weakness

Muscular dystrophy is characterized by certain pathomorphological changes: muscles thinning out, replacement of muscular tissue with adipose and connective tissue, and swelling. Focal necrosis zones appear in sarcoplasm, the nuclei of muscle cells are placed in chains, muscle fibers lose their cross-striation.
